UK First in Robotic Brain Surgery

RobotMoving

The Harley Street Clinic has become the first Hospital in the UK to offer innovative brain surgery using a ROSA robot. The ROSA robot enables neurosurgeons to carry out precise, targeted and minimally invasive brain surgery using a kind of GPS system.  It has been designed to mimic the movement of the human arm, allowing the navigation of difficult to reach areas of the brain by giving surgeons greater flexibility and freedom of movement when operating.  The Neurosurgeons at the London Neurosurgery Partnership, based at The Harley Street Clinic have recently become the first in the UK to use the ROSA robot, in line with The Harley Street Clinic, and HCA’s commitment to providing patients with the highest quality care, the latest advances in technology and access to the world’s leading consultants.

As explained by Professor Keyoumars Ashkan of London Neurosurgery Partnership, the innovations that the ROSA robot brings benefits our patients; “It allows for precise and safe navigation of the patient’s brain anatomy.  It also speeds up the whole surgical process and the reduced operative time is likely to translate into safer surgery, less time under anaesthetic and lower infection risk”.

Aida Yousefi, CEO of The Harley Street Clinic said: “We are delighted to be the first hospital in UK to offer the ROSA system to our patients. In partnership with the London Neurosurgery Partnership, the robot’s guidance system will allow our Neurosurgeons to perform surgical interventions that are even more accurate and minimally invasive”.
