Biography:

Professor Alan Salama completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Oxford and then moved to London to continue his clinical training and specialisation at The Royal London,  Guy’s Hospital, and the Hammersmith Hospital. In 2000, he was awarded a PhD for research carried out at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School into autoimmune renal disease.

Professor Salama then spent three years in the USA doing post-doctoral research; he worked at Harvard Medical School on a project focused on transplantation immunology and then became an NIH Nephrology Fellow at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. On returning to London in 2004 he was appointed Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Nephrology at Imperial College London and accepted the post of Reader and Honorary Consultant in Nephrology at University College London in 2010. He was appointed Professor of Nephrology at UCL in August 2013.
