Biography:

Michelle qualified in 2006 from Glasgow Caledonian University. She worked at the West of Scotland Cancer Centre where she gained experience and knowledge in looking after cancer patients. Michelle spent 5 years in a Head and Neck oncology ward and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma during this time. She moved to London in 2012 where she worked on the Oncology and Haematology ward before moving to Harley Street Clinic in 2014 where she took on her current role. Michelle continues to seek new knowledge and has recently completed a module at Masters Level in Head and Neck cancer care at the Royal Marsden.

Description of the service/speciality at the hospital that the CNS supports

The Harley Street Head and Neck team is a multi-disciplinary team that consists of Oncologists, Surgeons, Speech therapists, Nurses, Dieticians and radiographers.

The Harley Street Clinic has both inpatient and outpatient facilities .It is able to provide comprehensive care to all treatment modalities required to diagnose and treat Head and Neck cancers. There is a ‘Head and Neck Lump Clinic’ at the Harley Street Clinic enabling patients to be seen within 48 hours of referral. Treatments include: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and cyber knife. There is also a designated support group for Head and Neck patients who have undergone or undergoing cancer treatment.

How the CNS role fits into this service

Michelle’s role as a Head and Neck CNS will be to support patients and their families throughout the treatment journey and post treatment. She will endeavour to facilitate an efficient and seamless experience for the patient.

Michelle will work closely with the Clinical Oncologists to ensure continuity of care. With experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings and the support of an experienced multi-disciplinary team, Michelle will care for patients in a holistic manner. As the Head and Neck Oncology CNS, Michelle also provides a follow up service for patients providing ongoing care and support once treatment has completed. She also co-facilitates the Head and Neck Support group.
