Cancer Care

We provide the best medical care in cancer treatment and support for both the patient and their family.

At The Harley Street Clinic we treat every person diagnosed with cancer individually  and provide support services for both the patient and their family.

The focus of our Cancer Centre at The Harley Street Clinic, from the state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to leading drug development and treatment options, is centered on the needs of the individual person.  We continually invest in the latest technology and expertise to provide the most advanced private facility in Europe.

Cancer occurs when there is an abnormal change to the body cells. The human body is made up of different types of cells. Each producing a signal instructing how much and often a cell should should be divided ensuring that sufficient cells are produced to keep the body healthy. Abnormality to the cell occurs when right signal has not been sent causing it to divide and multiply too much forming a lump known as a tumour.

Tumours are either benign or malignant. Benign tumours are not cancerous and neither do they spread to other parts of the body. Malignant tumours conversely have the ability to grow and spread to other parts of the body.

Tests such as blood tests, biopsies and diagnostic investigations will be able to determine the type of cancer the patient has. The consultant will therefore be able to advise the appropriate treatment for the cancer type.

Our Cancer Care: Diagnosis and Treatment

The Harley Street Clinic treats all cancers at all ages.

We are able to provide the right comprehensive care for our patients throughout their journey from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.  Our leading cancer consultants work closely in a multidisciplinary team with our specialist nurses, and allied health professionals to provide comprehensive clinical care.

We also offer a full range of professional holistic services for those living with and beyond cancer, from nutrition and dietary advice, to complementary therapies and specialist counselling.

Radiotherapy and Imaging technology

Our radiologists work with the latest imaging equipment – magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners and computer tomography (CT) scanners which build a 3D image of the affected area – to detect and pinpoint the tumour very precisely so the treatment is extremely accurate. The Hospital has two linear accelerators with on board imaging.  These new ‘linacs’ are also able to deliver radiotherapy treatment using RapidArc™ technology.

CyberKnife and Gamma Knife treatment

We also have a CyberKnife® which is able to target tumours with sub-millimetre accuracy that were previously thought to be inoperable.

Our Gamma Knife® uses the latest Perfexion technology which is able to treat brain tumours which are considered highly inoperable. Gamma Knife is also used to treat many non-cancer cases relating to the head area.

Patients should be aware that neither CyberKnife nor Gamma Knife treatments involve the use of a ‘knife’, rather they are direct methods of attacking tumours with radiotherapy.

The Harley Street Clinic is at the forefront of new cancer drug development and can source novel treatment options.
