CANCER IN CHILDREN IS QUITE DIFFERENT TO CANCERS IN ADULTS AS THEY OCCUR IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BODY AND DO NOT RESPOND THE SAME WAY TO TREATMENT. ALTHOUGH CANCERS IN CHILDREN ARE QUITE RARE, THE SYMPTOMS CAN BE DIFFICULT TO SPOT AND OFTEN CONFUSED WITH OTHER LESS SERIOUS CONDITIONS.
We have dedicated multi-disciplinary team of consultants, surgeons, oncologists, haematologists, intensivists who work together with our clinical nurse specialist to treat such cancers. Our comprehensive cancer service from diagnostic including pathology and imaging to treatment is able to treat cancer in babies and children aged up to 18 years.
Apart from providing the best medical care to our young patients psychosocial team work with the children and their families offering holistic support such as counselling, play, art and music, throughout their treatment emphasizing they are children first regardless of their medical condition.
When a diagnosis is confirmed, decision about the child’s treatment plan is discussed with the parent, patient and our specialist oncology multi-disciplinary team, which may involve chemotherapy, haemato-oncolgy, radiotherapy and surgery.

OUR MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM (MDT)
The whole pathway, from pre-diagnosis, through until treatment and survival, is supported by an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) who works closely with the MDT. They will be there to support and advise you through the cancer care maze, linking closely with all the Clinicians involved in your care.
Our Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT) of specialists meet on a regular basis to discuss and carefully review individual cases and second opinions referred to them from all over the world. Having considered all the evidence, they independently provide the most appropriate treatment plan followed by a written report for each patient.
Medical opinion from an MDT provides referring doctors and patients with valued reassurance and peace of mind about the best way forward.
All of the various Clinicians involved are highly-rated experienced experts in the field of Paediatric Oncology within both the NHS and private practice and belong to the expert Paediatric Oncology MDT, sharing and practicing cutting edge medicine.
