Dr Michael Pelly qualified from St Mary’s Hospital in 1978. He spent three years in junior posts in London before spending two and a half years at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa. Following that he spent a year in Ethiopia during the 1984 famine, which started a life long interest in international humanitarian aid and global health.

Prior to taking a consultant post at Chelsea and Westminster Dr Pelly spent a year doing a master’s degree in clinical tropical medicine. He is currently a Consultant Physician at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital specialising in acute, general and stroke medicine. He is the Lead Clinician in stroke medicine and is an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College. He is currently active as part of a large international study looking into stroke services, and serves on the board of several health charities.

Widely regarded as a physician’s physician, he has been voted one of Tatler’s top 100 doctors and he holds the National Bronze Merit Award.
