carlos_gomez

is the Clinical Director of Intensive Care at The Harley Street Clinic and a Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia at St Mary's Hospital, part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London.

He qualified in Medicine in Barcelona and has undergone extensive clinical and academic training in many of London's teaching hospitals and was a Clinical Fellow in the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He also holds the US Medical Licensing Exam and the US Board certification in perioperative echocardiography.

His clinical interests include cardio-pulmonary intensive care, the inflammatory response and acute renal failure (MD Thesis), cardiovascular anaesthesia and difficult ventilation and weaning. He has written several manuscripts, chapters and reviews on these subjects and is currently editing a multi-author textbook of intensive care medicine.

He is an avid teacher of medical, postgraduate and allied health students. He is an expert member of the St Mary's Research Ethics Committee and has been advisor to the UK National Confidential Enquiry into Peri-operative Deaths (NCEPOD).

Dr Gómez is a regular lecturer in national and international conferences.

His current research activities centre around clinical outcomes in patients with kidney failure or requiring tracheostomies.

His interests outside of medicine are family life, reading, sports and photography.

I am a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at the Harley Street Clinic and the Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College since 2004. I have completed extensive training in all aspects of adult critical care at the most reputable London Teaching Hospitals.

I am the Lead Clinician for Audit and Guidelines, the Intercollegiate Board Tutor and Examiner for the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine.

My ongoing research interests include percutaneous tracheostomies, pancreatitis, management of severe sepsis and outcome following complex major surgery.

I have provided second opinions and direct patient care in Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt and Geneva (for Saudi Arabia), with successful patient outcomes.

My experience and training in Management and Intensive Care Medicine allow me to appreciate that teamwork and communication are essential to the successful management of critically ill patients.

Is currently Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at The Harley Street Clinic and Consultant Anaesthetist and Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer at Imperial College Healthcare.

He qualified from the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and trained in General (internal) Medicine and then Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in London. He was Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at St Mary's Hospital for 14 years.

He has been advisor to the National Confidential Enquiry into Peri-Operative Deaths (NCEPOD) in adults and children, Royal College of Anaesthetist Tutor in Anaesthesia, Imperial College Undergraduate Examiner and Royal College of Anaesthetist Consultant advisory appointments committee representative.

His clinical interests include difficult airway management, cardiac intensive care, transoesophageal echocardiography (USA Board Certification) and thromboelastography.

He is a member of the Intensive Care Society, the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists and the Royal College of Physicians.
